At last… no more chewed-up pencils, broken leads or howling artists.
I thought it was a bit like the way childhood summers were always hot and sunny, sweets always tasted better, dogs were always friendlier ……and…..pencil sharpeners actually worked. Without fail they sliced a long smooth curly coil of wafer thin wood and graphite that just kept growing for as long as you turned the pencil – and if you were a daft enough kid you could convert your entire pencil, as I did once.
Well here they are, beautifuly engineered with razor sharp carbon steel blades (and spare blades too).
Yes, they really did exist and they still do. They are even made by the same manufacturers (I remember “DUX”)
They can be purchased from this website. Quick and friendly service too. – http://www.topcolorsharpeners.com/collections/all
Holding the first one I purchased was like going back in time. Heavy brass – very heavy and well engineered with a knurled outer edge for grip.
The M+R Nugget
This one (which keeps all the shavings inside the hinged lid to be discarded later) I bought to use in the car. It has 2 extra holes in each side to sharpen two sizes of clutch pencil leads – The Blue Longpointer
The Dux Variable – A masterpiece. A small wheel at one end of the sharpener clicks into 3 settings. Position 1 makes a blunter short cone point for colour pencils. Position 2 makes a normal standard point for graphite pencils. Position 3 makes a fine longer point for drawing pencils.
The Dux Variable
…And it lives in a wee leather case, bless it.

No I don’t have shares in the firm.
